Two Quick Links and the Return of D&D

January 22nd, 2010

Link #1 — Gamers are helping Haiti! Donate $20 and get a bunch of ebooks that may or may not be interesting to you and your group of gamers.

Link #2 — I wrote about something that happened today that is too delicious not to share.

After many weeks of cancellation, my D&D group resumed activity last night! I got to do an Indiana Jones impersonation and swap a bag of poppy seeds with a fist-sized orb on an altar, triggering a trap. At least I had the good sense to grab the bag of poppy seeds when I ran.

I’m thinking when we run into the vampire next, I’ll drop them all in front of him and see if he’s the kind of vampire that is forced to count things.

We also encountered four minotaurs (or is “minotaur” also the plural?), and then a much larger minotaur that Olson dubbed the “maxotaur”. I was either rolling crits or missing, which got to be frustrating when I burned all my good powers and there were still enemies standing.

All in all, it was a good night. It was nice to get to stab things again.

A Time Machine!

January 19th, 2010

My friend Tim has created a time machine.

A very long time ago, he made a website to review music put out by Christian artists (also, “artists”), with a twist that we actually called it crap if it sucked, instead of trying to sugar-coat. Then we decided to expand into a webcomic starring fictional versions of ourselves and the other contributors.

The art is pretty horrible-tastic, especially early on, but I think if I had stuck with it, I’d be pretty awesome by now. But it wasn’t meant to be — the lifestyle caught up to us. As I was reclining on my gold-plated deck, I reached for my gold-plated phone to call in a hit on Tim and seize his half of the massive fortune we had acquired… and I realized I have become a monster. I hopped into my gold-plated limo and left everything behind.

Actually, I didn’t understand the meaning of “busy” and thought I didn’t have time to draw a comic 2-3 times a week. Hah! I would love to go back in time and tell myself to suck it up and draw.

Anyway, enjoy my embarrassingly bad attempts at drawing :)

thewife needs you!

January 13th, 2010

Quick! My wife needs your help! Go take her survey! While you’re there, check out her new blog. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

One thing that struck me as funny is that not long ago I said “I’m not going to pretend to be a writer” and went on to plug two other blogs I plan on updating pretty regularly. What I meant was, “I’m not going to kill myself to be a fiction writer.” I don’t even mean that I won’t write fiction, I just meant that I won’t treat it like a job and let it stress me out (i.e. I have to treat it like a hobby this year).

I really wanted to have a third thing in here so it would be more aesthetically pleasing, but all the ideas I had in the car this morning seem to have fallen out of my head. I really oughta dig out that mini-recorder.
