The Sword of Remiel

July 25th, 2008

My D&D character is a paladin named Corvus Lux. In 3.5 he was aasimar (a person with celestial ancestry), but now that we’re on 4.0 he is a human. For the purposes of family lore, I’m not sure it really matters.

In this installment, Corvus’s father has just left on a mission, and Corvus asked his mother about the family sword.

That’s a very special sword, your father’s. It once belonged to a Celestial named Remiel, who came to this world to fight injustice, and the story of how it came to belong to mortals is the story of the Lux family. (more…)

Class distinctions

Triumphant return of the mini recorder

July 23rd, 2008

A long, long, long, long time ago I blogged about how awesome mini-recorders are, and how everyone in the whole world should have one. It rocked for quite a while, until the “lock” button fell off and disappeared. Despite my best efforts, I found myself unable to retrieve the miscellaneous ideas it contained. I was devastated.

Until the wife said I could go ahead and order me a new one! Luckily, a fancy-pants one was on sale pretty cheap at Amazon, so within a few days I had a new road companion and all was well.

The reason I bring this up again is because, months later, it’s still a damn good investment. Often we find ourselves enamored with something for a month or so, then the novelty wears off and we forget about it. Not so with the mini-recorder. I still have random ideas when I’m driving, and thanks to the wonders of modern technology, I don’t have to lose them.

Anyway, I plan on getting back on track tomorrow with the fictionizing.
